It's Never Too Late to Change Fields
Angella built her career around service. Her passion was working with women in crisis, and for years she served as a safe house manager supporting victims escaping domestic violence. Wanting to broaden her skillset, she went on to complete a Master’s degree in International Relations, certain that the credential would open new doors. It did not happen the way she expected. The jobs in her field were scarce, and Angella found herself standing at a crossroads with a glowing resume and an uncertain path forward.
Finding Empowerment
She took a job at a non-profit hosting webinars. While building one focused on employment resources for survivors of violence, she went searching for information to include and came across Dress for Success Triangle. The more she learned about the organization, the clearer one thought became. “I need this for me!” she remembers thinking. Since then, Angella has built a relationship with Dress for Success Triangle that has grown over time. She has used career and image coaching, participated in mock interviews, and gone through the Going Places Network not once, but twice.
“The beautiful part of GPN is meeting all the other women and knowing I’m not the only one going through this phase of my career,” she shared.
Making a Change with New Skills
When Dress for Success Triangle offered clients the chance to complete a Google Certificate program, Angella jumped at the opportunity. She had already discovered a love for web design at her non-profit job, so a certificate in UX design felt like the natural next step. “I’ve learned so much along the way,” she said. “I love analytics and learning how to build a great, user-friendly website.” Since starting the program, Angella has taken on freelance web design work for non-profits and is now looking ahead toward a full-time role in UX design for social good. Changing careers can feel daunting at any stage, but the skills and confidence she built through Dress for Success Triangle gave her the push she needed to try something new.
“It’s never too late to change fields. Go ahead and give it a try. If you’re thinking about trying something new, do it. It can change your life.”
