A Pride Month sale built for comfort, dignity, and belonging

In honor of Pride Month, Dress for Success Triangle held a boutique sale in Durham designed specifically for members of the LGBTQ+ community. The event offered a shopping experience built around comfort, choice, and dignity for clients who may not always feel at ease during general public shopping days.

Executive Director Heather Dennis explained the thinking behind the sale in an interview with CBS 17.

“We’re specifically catering today towards a population that may not feel comfortable shopping on our general public days. We’re staffed with volunteers who are very comfortable helping people who maybe are dressing a different body for the first time,” said Dennis.

Volunteers spent the day before the sale setting up racks of carefully curated professional clothing, including options beyond the traditional categories typically found at boutique sales.

“In this sale particularly, we’ve also made an effort to offer some more gender-neutral clothing,” said Dennis.

At its core, the event was about making sure every shopper felt comfortable, seen, and supported.

“There were a lot of folks that were coming to us that didn’t have a comfort level with dressing their changing body, their transitioning body, and as we heard from our clients and our fellow nonprofits that serve that community, we recognize that there is a need for that,” said Dennis.

The sale took place at the Dress for Success Triangle location on William Vickers Avenue in Durham. Read the full CBS 17 story here.
