Angella's Story

“Dress for Success Triangle empowers women and they empowered me.”

AN UNCERTAIN PATH

Angella started her career in mental health, her passion lying in serving women in crisis. After years as a safe house manager for victims escaping domestic violence, Angella wanted to broaden her skillset so she completed a Masters degree in International Relations. She thought doors would fly open for her with her glowing resume but soon realized that there weren’t many jobs in her field and her path forward was uncertain.

FINDING EMPOWERMENT

Angella got a job at a non-profit hosting webinars. While creating a webinar on employment for victims of violence, she searched for women’s employment resources. That’s when she found Dress for Success Triangle. As she learned about the organization she found herself thinking, “I need this for me!”

Since then, Angella has utilized career and image coaching, participated in mock interviews, and participated in the Going Places Network twice!

“The beautiful part of GPN is meeting all the other women and knowing I’m not the only one going through this phase of my career.”

MAKING A CHANGE WITH NEW SKILLS

When Dress for Success Triangle offered a program for clients to complete Google Certificates, Angella jumped at the opportunity. At her non-profit job she found she enjoyed web design, so she knew a Google Certificate in UX design was perfect for her! “I’ve learned so much along the way. I love analytics and learning how to build a great, user-friendly website.”

Since starting the Google Certificate program, Angella has been doing freelance web design for non-profits and is looking forward to finding a position with consistent work in UX design for social good. While changing careers can be daunting, the skills Angella learned from her experience with Dress for Success Triangle empowered her to try something new.

“It’s never too late to change fields. Go ahead and give it a try! If you’re thinking about trying something new, do it! It can change your life.”
