“It feels like family and you really get the sense that you're accomplishing things with a group of people”.
After leaving a position that wasn’t a good fit for her, Cathy was left emotionally reeling. In her mid-fifties, Cathy wasn’t sure where to go; she was at a juncture in her career. She found herself needing to continue in her career path or consider pivoting to something new. After coming across Dress for Success Triangle at a Wake Tech Community College exhibitor fair, she found her next step in our job acquisition program.
The Going Places Network is a multi-week class targeted at gaining the tools needed to get hired. Cathy signed up for the class and graduated in November of 2019 and benefited from using our strength finder tools, as well as one-on-one career coaching.
From graduate to volunteer
Since graduating from the Going Places Network, Cathy was so inspired by the program that she decided to start volunteering with us in any way she could. Cathy volunteers as an image coach, where she styles women for their upcoming interviews, she has been on our event planning committee, and she even volunteers in our donation center. “The donation center is a real team environment,” says Cathy. “It feels like family and you really get the sense that you're accomplishing things with a group of people. All of the Dress for Success Triangle efforts are so helpful right now in these times.”
In addition to volunteering with us, Cathy also volunteers with Meals on Wheels of Wake County and SPCA of Wake County!
Although Cathy’s job search has slowed due to the pandemic, she is continuing to actively look for work. She’s not just looking for any job though, she’s looking for the right job. Cathy says she’s looking closely at each company’s mission and their leadership to make sure it's a good fit for her. It’s no surprise to us that Cathy says she would love to end up somewhere that is making a difference in the community.
