“The best thing was the mock interviews because you got to go to a real employer and talk with human resources.”
Anne worked for the same company for more than 9 years. When her job duties dwindled and her position became obsolete, she thought it would be easy for her to transition to another role within the same company since she had been there for so long. After finding the transition to be a difficult one, she found herself hurt and without a job. After going on a few unsuccessful interviews, Anne felt even more discouraged.
Anne’s friend told her about the Going Places Network, a multi-week class focused on gaining the tools needed to find employment. Anne had heard about Dress for Success Triangle for years, but she never knew about the class. Anne and her friend signed up for the class together.
Starting Fresh
After her first few classes, Anne learned that the way that job seekers quantified their experiences had changed. She was able to hear how other women in her class had worded their resumes and it helped to be able to apply similar descriptors to her own resume. Anne was also able to take advantage of one-on-one sessions with career coaches to further craft her resume.
While in the class, Anne met with employers from the state and various temp agencies who gave tips on how to format her resume to apply for their openings. “The best thing was the mock interviews because you got to go to a real employer and talk with human resources.” Anne brought copies of her resume to her mock interviews and even received feedback on how she could make changes to fit the job she was applying for.
Noticed Determination
Each day after class, Anne would leave Dress for Success Triangle and head directly to an employment training center and apply what she had learned to her job applications. Anne even helped her classmates get set up on the training center’s system. The training center’s staff took note of Anne’s determination and her ability to help others. While participating in a Dress for Success Triangle webinar, Anne got a phone call and had to hop off the call. She came back on with great news--she was hired at the training center!
Anne is loving her job at the employment training center. “It’s really rewarding helping other people find work,” she shares.
