Annie's Success Story

Introduction to Dress for Success Triangle’s Marketing Intern, ECU Graduate, & Future Marketing Professional

June 11, 2025—Hi, I’m Annie. I recently graduated from East Carolina University with a degree in Communications and am stepping into the next chapter of my life with hope, curiosity, and a desire to build a career that feels aligned with who I am.

Right now, I serve as a Marketing Intern with Dress for Success Triangle NC, but beyond that, I’m also a woman actively navigating my own path towards building my career after completing college. Like many recent graduates, I’ve been figuring out how to move from college into a meaningful career that reflects my strengths and goals.

While I joined Dress for Success Triangle as an intern, I also took advantage of our free career-building programs and services because I needed guidance, encouragement, and practical tools to help me feel confident as I prepared for my career. Through the Career & Life Coaching, Styling, Going Places Network, and Google Career Certificate programs, I’ve already felt a shift in my confidence and clarity.

In this blog, I’m sharing what that journey has looked like for me, in hopes it encourages other women to take that first step to work with Dress for Success Triangle, too.

My First Styling Session Where I Received Free Workplace Attire for My New Internship

June 26, 2025—When I booked my first free one-one-one styling session with Dress for Success Triangle, I thought I’d just be walking out with a new outfit. But instead, I left with a boost of confidence with an outfit that helped me feel polished, comfortable, and ready to take on my future. For newcomers preparing for interviews and job searching, you will receive one free complete professional outfit. The best part? Once you land your next job, you’re invited to come back to receive 10 mix-and-match workplace attire pieces to help you build your wardrobe for work. And yes, they are completely free to you!

Since I was considered employed as a new intern, I qualified for the ten-piece experience. From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed by my styling coach. The boutique was beautiful and organized, and the staff and volunteers were incredibly warm. The stylist took time to understand my work environment, style, and what makes me feel most confident. Every piece was thoughtfully curated just for me with my unique style and comfort in mind.

That’s what stood out the most: every detail was about helping me feel strong, seen, and supported. I left not just with clothes that fit my career goals but with a sense of empowerment. That’s when I realized Dress for Success Triangle doesn’t just prepare women to get the job. They prepare us to thrive once we have it.

My First Career & Life Coaching Session with Dress for Success Triangle

July 23, 2025—My first Career & Life Coaching session began with a one-on-one intake meeting where I was matched with a coach who aligned with my goals. The process was personal, thoughtful, and genuinely encouraging. We talked about my interests, the challenges I’ve faced, and where I wanted to grow. Together, we built a realistic plan for pursuing a career in marketing.

One of the most valuable lessons I learned was how to go beyond listing responsibilities on my résumé. My coach showed me how to highlight results and tailor my résumé for each job by mirroring keywords from the posting and emphasizing measurable accomplishments. I also learned how to use LinkedIn as a learning tool by encouraging me to study career paths of professionals in my field to see how they grew over time.

Most importantly, I learned the power of networking. I had always thought of it as intimidating, but now I see it as relationship building. It helped me feel more comfortable reaching out to people for help, asking questions, and connecting with purpose.

This session gave me something I didn’t expect: clarity and confidence. I walked away not just with a stronger résumé, but with a mindset ready to grow.

I Enrolled in Another Free Google Career Certificate and Today’s My Check-In Meeting with Dress for Success Triangle

August 12, 2025—I had such a great and seamless experience with Google Career Certificate’s AI Essentials Certificate, that I decided to pursue the Digital Marketing & E-commerce Certificate, too.

Today, I joined my first Google Career Certificate monthly check-in meeting, which is part of the free certificate programs Dress for Success Triangle offers in partnership with Grow with Google. These meetings are less about progress tracking and more about community and connection, where we celebrate milestones, share advice, and find encouragement from other women on similar career journeys.

This month’s session included a guest speaker from Lenovo who shared her story of breaking into the tech industry. She reminded us that change is possible and worth it. I left feeling motivated and especially proud of myself for diving into a second certificate, as it’s an investment into me and my future.

What I Learned from Dress for Success Triangle’s Free Career Webinars (and Why You Should Watch Them, Too)

August 13, 2025—Every Wednesday, Dress for Success Triangle hosts free virtual Career-Building Webinars covering a range of topics like job interviewing, leadership, personal branding, and more. Each session lasts about an hour and is designed to meet women where they are in their career journey.

The webinar I attended today focused on job interviewing. It walked through every stage of it (before, during, and after) with practical strategies to stand out. My favorite takeaway? It’s not always the most qualified person who gets the job, but the one who communicates their value most clearly. I also learned how important it is to follow up thoughtfully after an interview. Remember, a small gesture can make a lasting impression.

You can always access previously recorded Career Building Webinars here to learn at your own pace. It’s like a library of free career support available right at your fingertips!

How I’m Building My Career with the Free Google Digital Marketing & E-Commerce Certificate

August 19, 2025—Today, I continued working on the Google Career Certificate in Digital Marketing & E-Commerce. The first module, “Foundations of Digital Marketing,” gave me a clear understanding of what digital marketing actually is and the skills needed to succeed in this fast-growing field.

I learned about:

  • The main roles and career paths in digital marketing
  • The concept of the marketing funnel and customer journey
  • How to build awareness, conversion, and loyalty through strategy

It’s been exciting to learn how digital marketing connects creativity and strategy. This course has shown me that I’m on the right path and that growth starts with small, consistent steps.

How Career & Life Coach Helped Me Feel Ready for Interviews and Stand Out on LinkedIn

August 20, 2025—In my second Career & Life Coaching session, we focused on strengthening my LinkedIn profile to appeal to employers and interview preparation. My coach created a relaxed environment where I could be open about my fears and challenges. We practiced doing a mock interview, and by question three, I forgot it was even practice.

She gave honest feedback, helped me identify areas to improve, and taught me how to present my strengths with confidence. Before this session, interviews felt intimidating. Now, I see them as an opportunity to tell my story and show what I bring to the table.

That session reminded me that career coaching isn’t just about advice, it’s about building belief in yourself. I left feeling even more capable, prepared, and ready to start my job search.

What Happened Next: Confidence, Clarity, and My First Job Offer

After completing my sessions and certificates, I’m proud to share that I landed a new job as of October 2025! From styling to career & life coaching, each step helped me grow my skills and confidence. I now feel ready to continue building a career that reflects who I am and the kind of future I want.
