Monique's Story

Monique Tirado is tireless in her efforts to change her world.

When Monique walked into our Raleigh offices she appeared confident, relaxed and polished.  What didn’t show on her face was the stress of being a mom to three little ones, being a part-time honor student at Wake Tech, and knowing she had to find full-time employment to support her family.

Monique had been working in a part-time temporary position with the hope of it becoming permanent. However, when the position was eliminated she had to begin her search for a new job and when her search wasn’t fruitful she sought help from Dress for Success Triangle.

“Before coming to Dress for Success I just filled out applications and tried to make contacts. I understood something was not working. I knew Dress for Success did mock interviews and helped update resumes. I wanted to know what I was doing wrong. A career coach critiqued my resume and helped me improve it and I went through mock interviews to practice for an interview I had coming up. My image coach found a great outfit for me to wear to the interview and I left Dress for Success feeling so confident. I was able to explain myself so well in the interview for a Customer Service Representative that the interviewers recommended me for a higher paying position with more responsibilities as a Talent Development Advisor.”

Great news soon followed and Monique was hired for the position as a Talent Development Advisor. She credits her success to her diligence, her willingness to seek help and act on the advice of her coaches at Dress for Success.  Monique is one of 10,000 women in the Triangle we have served since opening our doors in 2008.  We are so happy she found success with the support of our programs, mentors and coaches.  We are honored to be a part of her journey.

What is next for Monique?

Monique will complete her degree from Wake Tech in two more semesters. She is involved in student government and is a member of the honor society. After she graduates she will attend Wesleyan to get her accounting degree. Her goal is to work in the payroll department of a company.
