Donate Clothing

Please take a look at our donation guidelines below. Unfortunately we cannot accept clothing drives that have not been scheduled with our Donation Center Manager. Before you consider planning a drive, contact Denise Torain at denise.torain@dfstrianglenc.org for approval and scheduling. Thank you so much.

Our warehouse volunteers only accept clothes that are work-appropriate for our clients and meet the following requirements: 

most urgent needs

  • Plus-size work attire (sizes 18-22 most needed)
  • Shoes size 10 and up
  • Interview & work appropriate handbags (including briefcases and portfolios without company logos)

Preparing Your Donation

  • Clothing must be professionally cleaned and free of stains, tears, rips, holes, broken zippers, etc.
  • All clothes should be on hangers, not in bags
  • Items should be no more than five years old (for fashion appropriateness)
  • If you need an inventory of donated items please make a list prior to dropping them off as we cannot provide this for you

    What WE Accept

    • Work attire (suits, dresses, pants, blouses, skirts, sweaters, scrubs) 
    • Shoes (both heels and rubber-soled work shoes) in excellent condition that are free of excessive scuffing, flaking/dry rot inside
    • Handbags (including briefcases and portfolios without logos)
    • Jewelry separated in individual plastic bags
    • Scarves
    • New bras, pantyhose, tights and trouser socks
    • Cashmere

    What we cannot accept

    • Clothes with stains, tears, rips, holes, broken zippers, etc.
    • 100% wool clothing (with the exception of winter coats), corduroy, velvet, leather, suede, ultra suede, micro-fiber, fur
    • Clothes without a size label
    • Clothes that have been altered (except for length)
    • Turtlenecks, graphic tee shirts or clothing with company branded logos or names
    • Long dresses including every day and formal wear
    • Used undergarments
    • Items rubber-banded or zip-tied together

    Where to Donate

    Like all of our programs our clothing donation centers are operated by volunteers, which limits the days and hours of operation. Please review the information below and then feel free to contact us at 919-286-2128 with additional questions.
